To perhaps drum up interest in CPJ, I will be running extracts from “A Critical Text of the Westminster Larger Catechism: Q. 1–50,” which will appear, D.V. in The Confessional Presbyterian 3 (2007) due off the press October 1st. As the work is quite extensive, the full catechism will be presented seriatim across several issues, again Lord willing.

Naphtali Press is reprinting its edition of James Durham’s Sermons on Isaiah 53 which should arrive this week from the book maker. Below is a bit of information about Durham and his various writings, happily much of which has been reprinted in the last decade after a long period of neglect. Culture and Ministry

Introduction: Cultures wow! We all feel proud of them when it comes to talk. We talk about our culture a lot when somebody takes interest in that. The cultures are very much part of our identity. We reflect them. Each country and people group has its own. And in most cases we are proud of our cultures. Ruine Der Frauenkirche Dresden

Here is a poem that I wrote in 1992 after a trip to Germany during which I stumbled upon a statute of Martin Luther at the ruined Frauenkirche in Dresden in the middle of the night:

Ruine Der Frauenkirche Dresden

Meandering from a bridge over the haunting Elbe,
through the shrouded mist enveloping foreigners,
I was brought to stop and see a judgment of the God
for whom Martin Luther still stands.
No spotlight illuminates this bittersweet...
