A Paradigm Shift

Posted 02-26-2009 at 12:26 AM by Jen

I still remember the first time I heard of that set of doctrines known as “Calvinism”. I was pretty young — either late-elementary school or early-junior high age. I don’t remember if I was reading my parents’ copy of Discipleship Journal or Christianity Today, but those were the two main Christian magazines we were getting at the time. I think the article was written by a woman — though there’s a 50% chance it was written by a man.

He is neither Roman nor Orthodox, but the pastor of a non-denominational, charismatic church.

Throw in a reference to a confession or catechism, and people almost always consider...

Preservation

Posted 10-30-2008 at 10:05 PM by Jen

Last night in Ancient Church, we covered some more background on the Nicene Council. I think that the circumstances surrounding the development of the Nicene Creed and the very important doctrine that it contains (that the Son is consubstantial with the Father) is one of history's examples of the ways in which God will preserve His Church.

The Nicene Council met in 325, but it wouldn't be until 381, at the Council of Constantinople, that resistance to the creed would effectively end...
