I have posted a guest article from another Reformed Anglican, Robin Jordan, on the topic of the American 1928 Book of Common Prayer and what is wrong with it.

"The 1928 Prayer Book was adopted at the time the Anglo-Catholic and Broad Church movements were the dominant schools of thought in the Protestant Episcopal Church and the book reflects their doctrinal emphases. At the 1925 General Convention Anglo-Catholics and Broad Churchmen united to remove the Thirty-Nine Articles from the American Prayer Book. They adopted a resolution dropping the Articles from the Prayer Book. However, they were thwarted by the denomination's Constitution..." (Robin Jordan).

What's Wrong with the 1928 BCP?

I am one of the few Anglicans around who is a 5 point Calvinist and faithful to the English Reformation. The same cannot be said of J. I. Packer or Gerald Bray, both of whom signed the Evangelicals and Catholics Together document, which in effect undermines the doctrines of grace in an attempt to unite with the mother of all harlots, the Roman Catholic Church.

The following sermon by the 18th century Anglican evangelist, George Whitefield, shows why total depravity and justification by faith alone are essential doctrines of the "catholic" faith. This of necessity excludes all "Christians" who deny the five solas of the Protestant Reformation and the doctrines of grace which flow out of the Augustinian theology of the reformers.

George Whitefield:

http://reasonablechristian.blogspot....sermon-on.html

It has been objected by some, who dissent from, nay, I may add, by others also, who actually are friends to the present ecclesiastical establishment, that the ministers of the Church of England preach themselves, and not Christ Jesus the Lord; that they entertain their people with lectures of mere morality, without declaring to them the glad tidings of salvation by Jesus Christ. How well grounded such an objection may be, is not my business to inquire. All I shall say at present to the point is, that whenever such a grand objection is urged against the whole body of the clergy in general, every honest minister of Jesus Christ should do his utmost to cut off all manner of occasion, from those who desire an occasion to take offence at us; that so by hearing us continually sounding forth the Word of truth, and declaring with all boldness and assurance of faith, "that there is no other name given under heaven, whereby they can be saved, but that of Jesus Christ," they may be ashamed of this their same confident boasting against us.

I wrote the following e-mail/article in response to the contact person at the Society of Evangelical Arminians. It really is no surprise that an Arminian thinks that creeds and confessions of faith are without authority since the Arminian argument is based ultimately only on those parts of Scripture agreeing with their presupposed understanding of the texts. Calvinism, on the other hand, bases its understanding of the text on all of Scripture and a wholistic approach. Thus, both the sovereignty of God and the free agency of sinful and corrupt human beings are given their proper place in doing systematic and biblical theology.
