Hello Mary,

A fairly recent thread discussed just this: Who are the two witnesses in Revelation?

For almost 40 years I held to the understanding they were two actual people, collecting books on the topic, and pondering it. But now I see them as figurative of the prophetic ministries of the church. I would recommend William Hendriksen's commentary as the simplest and clearest exposition.
