According to the first chapter of Genesis, plants and animals reproduce after their kind. I think creationists believe that two organisms are of the same kind if they can produce viable offspring. The seventh day is a normal day in human reckoning. The lack of morning and evening references to the seventh day also indicate that in God's reckoning, the great Sabbath begins, into which we will go, as Hebrews tells us.
