In the thread I linked Bob made the point that tatoos call attention to self. I concur. I don't know anyone who gets a tatoo just so they can look at it in the mirror. They are making a statement. They want people to look at them. The same with odd piercings and dying your hair purple. IMHO those things are not about humility. When I encounter a person who exemplifies these things I treat them like I do anybody else. I don't call attention to their personal appearance.
