Nice one!
Feminism, plain and simple. In the realm of entertainment, it is feminism combined with juvenile fantasy (often known as "arrested development").
Unfortunately, the Army has had integrated training for some years now, and it is true that all it does is to lower the standard of training. There are two separate physical standards between men and women, and since the military is now big on making everyone feel good about themselves and finishing as a group, it does indeed drag down the training of the men.
I remember that there were women in my parachutist training course, and that although the requirement had been that everyone had to be able to accomplish a minimum of ten pull ups before we began jumping, the women merely had to complete a flexed arm hang for thirty seconds or something. This was really an issue with me, since the whole point of having to complete the pull ups was to demonstrate to the instructors that you had sufficient upper body strength to perform a "slip" using your risers to counteract the force of a driving wind, or to maneuver around an obstacle or another jumper. If you couldn't do the pull ups, you probably couldn't perform a sufficient slip (which does require a bit of upper body strength on the toggle-less mass-tac parachute). However, since jumps are almost always into a combat situation, and since it was figured that airborne school was just being used for promotional points with these women, the issue was probably seen as untouchable by the cadre.
I would have like to have seen any of them sprint on down to the barracks with us for the Ranger Indoctrination Program that began the day we graduated from jump school.... (flexed-arm hangs won't save you there)
