Simple historical examples do not necessarily imply commendation. The Bible, especially the Old Testament, records many horrible actions. When did God ever demonstrate a nuanced reading of the Law? If anything He elevated it to even higher standards (see the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5-7).
