Pray for more of the Spirit?

Quote:
Christians ought to pray for the Spirit, that is, for more of the Spirit, though God has endued them with the Spirit already.
Prayer- John Bunyan

1. What does Bunyan mean by praying for "more of the Spirit?" How can you have more then you used to have? Is he saying that we should pray for more influence/strength from the Holy Spirit?

2. How does one pray for more of the Spirit?

"Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart, And all is darkened in the vale of tears, Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart, Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears. Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay From His own fullness all He takes away."
