It's not like I was a close friend or anything but I graduated from Favre's high school a few years after him. I was in the same class as his younger sister Brandi and his two younger brothers succeeded him at QB (actually, I think we went something like 6 years with a Farve under center--maybe more). His dad, Irv, was the coach of our football team and his mom, Bonita, was the school librarian. I can't tell you how big of a deal Brett is to the tiny town of Kiln, MS. And winning the Superbowl right down the road in New Orleans...it was right out of a Hollywood script.

A lot of people may be surprised to know that Brett was never a big deal at quarterback until later in college. He played on both sides of the ball at Hancock High, handing it off all day long in his dad's wishbone offense and playing safety on defense. He actually went to Southern Miss on a defensive scholarship before his arm was noticed. Even then, he didn't receive any national attention until the Golden Eagles upset Florida State. Then the scouts took notice.

Where I come from he is the one country boy that made it big. Of course everyone claims to have been his best buddy back home. In a strange way, though, he was. He's as down to earth as you'd expect and was always most comfortable around the hometown folks.

Hats of to a great career, Brett!
