The life that we receive from Christ is described in scripture as "imputed" righteousness, not actual righteousness, which is, if I understand this correctly, why we still die physically. In other words, there is no metaphysical change in us when we become believers. We remain in this "body of death" and continue to outwardly waste away while at the same time being renewed in the inner man (sanctification). Yet, because we have been declared righteousness in Christ, although we still die natural deaths we will live forever with Christ and our bodies will eventually be resurrected and glorified.
