It seems to be better-written than his first one, Hood. The story line is very interesting and even borders on original (a rarity among fantasy writers). This one seems to lack all the mystical non-sense in his other works. I am pleased so far.

His first one was 3.8 stars out of 5. Better than most fantasy novels, to be sure, and presupposing something of a Christian worldview and vocabulary, it was stylistically weak but nevertheless interesting. This one looks to be much better.
Glad to get the "recomend"....I like Lawhead...but like you...I think his writing can be weak at times...is this part of a new series..or is it just something I missed.
It's a new series. The first one came out Christmas 2006. The Dragon King Saga was awesome. The Arthurian legends started out awesome, then dovetailed quickly and painfully. Same with the Albion trilogy.

But this trilogy seems better.
