The French Huguenots of New York City constituted a quarter of the population at one time (the Dutch assimilated the French;
Peter Minuit, the Dutchman who bought Manhattan was actually a Walloon, or Dutch-speaking Huguenot). The
Huguenot Society of America is based in NYC, and one of the few remaining active Huguenot churches in America is the
L'Eglise Française du Saint Esprit.
Huguenot Street is just up the river in New Paltz.
