Society is eroding (has eroded) the differences between men and women. I have 4 children, one on the way. My first is a girl and the rest are boys. My daughter is in no way a "tom boy" so she has dolls, barbies, et. My younger sons in order to play have played "family" together using barbies, et.
Rather than try to prohibit their play time together I introduced male dolls, Ken, G.I. Joe, and monsters for the boys. They quickly gravitated to those. Of course, my daughter thought it was fun to dress the boys up in princess costumes which I put an end to. At some level, this is just childplay.
At another level it is the responsibility of parents to train their children in the way they should go. This certainly includes teaching them the fear of the Lord. It also includes teaching them gender roles and what is femine and masculine. When my son expressed an interest in ballet because my daughter was taking lessons, I forbid it. Other parents looked at me as pig-headed and ancient. I looked at the ratio of boys to girls in that sport. 10 girls to 1 boy.
I know he will thank me later in life when there are no pictures of him tip-toeing around a stage in spandex. lol I encourage and steer my boys to manly activities and duties. Around the house they are the muscle for mom and their sister. They are encouraged to be protectors of their family and home. They are being trained to be leaders with strength, compassion, and resolve. They are taught that it is their duty to honor God and defend their homeland.
Contrary to popular sentiment, they are taught soldiering is for boys, not girls. My daughter is trained in the art of homemaking, mothering, and that men are scum (sorry, daddy reaction). jk
She is taught that loving a husband and having children are high and honorable virtures, not supression. She is taught that raising a family is a higher calling than advancing a career. She is taught that a man that doesn't work hard to support a family is a girly-man and not worth 2 seconds of her attention. She is taught these things mainly by how I treat my wife. (God help me).
May the Lord help us all raise godly children with biblical gender roles and shun the absurd feminizing of men and the masculinizing of women.
