Question Hodge on Saul

In Charles Hodge's Systematic Theology, Vol 1, pg 589, he states this:

Quote:
In 1 Chron 10:4-14 it is said that Saul slew himself, but it is elsewhere said that the Lord slew him and turned his kingdom unto David.
I am racking my brain and I cannot remember where the Bible says that it was the Lord who slew him. Is Hodge referring to the general promise that God made to David that he would get the kingdom someday?
