Church government (and/or ecclesiology) is one of the BIG voids in my understanding of the faith. I'm afraid that my cynical nature has always caused me to cast an overly suspicious eye at church bodies in general. This is not good and I'm coming to appreciate the necessity of (it) and how it impacts my personal Christian walk in an adverse way by holding to my foolish maverick stance.

Can anyone recommend some good books and resources on this subject? I like to work from general to specific when it comes to grasping subject matter so a general treatment of the subject would be great...I'm afraid that if I go right to the Westminster standards (as Matt suggested) that I won't even understand the parameters of much of the debate.

Thanks.
